The Problem
The Design Lab was approached by the School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design (AMPD) to create a commemorative campaign for the celebration of their 50th anniversary.
The creative campaign needed to feature a give-away item for alumni and guests of the celebration event for AMPD's 50th anniversary. The campaign needed to reflect back on the 50 years of history, creativity and transformation of AMPD, as well as to promote the faculty, reach out to alumni, and encourage more people to support arts education.
Rationale
The campaign uses important figures and imagery from art history.
The overall creative direction of the campaign drew from traditional and modern design techniques and images to produce designs that feel both traditional and modern.
The Solutions
Arts Postcard
The 'Arts' postcard needed to represent the Visual Arts, Art History, and Computational Arts departments simultaneously. Blendr was used to 3D render a shape and then used to fill the entire composition of the postcard, reminiscent of a modern art painting.

Media Postcard
The 'Media' postcard visualizes the focus of the Media department - Cinema Studies - through using an image of a vintage camera, applying a duotone, and styling the postcard like a 1960s movie poster.

Performance Postcard
The 'Performance' postcard draws from the historical influences of the Performance department. Image traces of vintage illustrations of historically significant dancers, musicians, and thespians are used to create a background texture. The word 'Performance' is repeated to symbolize the communal aspect of performing.

Design Postcard
The 'Design' postcard visualizes the field of Design's current existence; a blending of print and digital methods. Gradients, image traces, beveled text, pixelated shapes, and grids are used to create an effect that merges print and digital aesthetics.

Explanatory Postcard
The 'Explanation Card' was created to explain the purpose of the campaign to attendees of AMPD's 50th Anniversary Celebration event.

Concepts
We pitched the client on other creative, such as a logo variation and animation, as well as other promotional giveaways.
Ultimately, the client didn't feel that they were able to implement the animation accross their network, while the promotional giveaways were not feasible within the current budget.

Style Guides
The campaign had an already established brand identity.
The first style guide is the overall style guide for AMPD's 50th Anniversary that we had to work within while the next 2 cards show how we evolved and adapted the guide to our creative vision.
